Abstract

The accurate identification of psychoeducational needs is crucial for the effective intervention of student support services in higher education. The objective of this article is to describe the design and validation process of the NEPIC scale, created to measure the psychoeducational needs that hinder the academic success of students in higher education. The developed Likert-type scale contains ten dimensions. It was administered to 2,292 students enrolled in a Mexican public university. The instrument's validity was determined through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). A Cronbach's alpha of 0.909 and an overall Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) index of 0.924 were obtained for the eight subscales. The final version contains 39 items grouped into eight factors. The NEPIC scale has an acceptable level of reliability and validity for measuring the psychoeducational needs that hinder the academic success of students in higher education.
